People are washing their raw chicken with dish soap and we have questions

We should no longer be surprised at the kinds of things that overhauled on the internet, but when we saw the viral videos of people washing their raw chicken with dishwashing liquid and a scrubbing brush, we did a triple take.

And while some are clearly satire – surely nobody spends 10 minutes scrubbing a chicken breast with Pine-Sol – recipe creators and home cooks aplenty are convinced raw chicken needs to be cleaned before you cook it to wash off the “nasty bacteria”.

So is there any truth to this idea? Have we been risking our health by just bunging our chicken straight from the packaging and into the oven? We asked some experts.
